Harry Clarke is one of many different artists who illustrated an edition of Hans Christian Anderson's famous story, The Little Mermaid. His depiction is much darker than the imagery we tend to associate with the fairy tale today – the mermaid is rendered in heavy black and white ink, surrounded by strange, fearsome sea creatures.
